Those horny dragon-riders came out hard once again. The cast of House of the Dragon hit the London second season premiere red carpet like they were opening a summer blockbuster movie. Not that you’ll hear us complaining. We figured the largely UK-based cast would give this event the big show out. One or two of them even managed to step up their style game.
Emma D’Arcy in Canaku
Maybe it’s too on the nose or maybe we’re reading too much into it, but they are just the best at signaling their nonbinary identity in their clothing. We love everything about this except the shoes, which are kind of ugly.
Eve Best
The fit in the bodice is off, or it could’ve used some zhuzhing before she stepped in front of cameras. Otherwise it’s an okay look. Gets the job done in a glamorous and largely flattering way. The necklace isn’t right for it, however.
Ewan Mitchell in Alexander McQueen
Buddy, what the actual fuck do you think you’re doing? Like, what is the thinking here?
Fabien Frankel in Giorgio Armani
He looks extremely good in these sorts of Bogart-adjacent film noir styles, but we’d like him to learn the importance of color and the value of a killer pair of shoes, because he needs some help in those departments.
Harry Collett
It’s fine. Suits him well.
Jamie Kenna
The jacket is a little short on him and the tailoring overall could be improved, but the style looks great on him. Those chunky loafers are wrong for it, however.
Matt Smith in Giorgio Armani
We get that he’s doing this whole insouciant, rakish sort of thing with his style, but we miss the days of Doctor Who and The Crown, when he used to dress with a little more flair and thought than this.
Matthew Needham in Brioni
Works for us, We appreciate that it’s not monochromatic, but it’s still a little too tone-on-tone for us. A white shirt might not be the freshest choice, but some contrast would help a lot.
Olivia Cooke in Stella McCartney
Surprisingly underwhelming. Just fuzzy, shapeless, and not memorable.
Phia Saban in Yohji Yamamoto
On a different sort of red carpet, we might suggest that this is a little too editorial and conceptual, but honestly? She looks kind of great and this is the sort of crowd/project/venue that should be inspiring a bit more risk-taking on the style front.
Steve Toussaint
As with a lot of his ensembles, the idea is good, but the execution is never quite there, usually in the fit.
Tom Glynn-Carney
“London banker, 1975” is SUCH a great look for him.
