The Espys happened last week and we were too caught up in Barbie-ing and Oppenheimer-ing to really pay them attention. In truth, we took one look at the offerings and said “We’ll keep this one on hold until we hear if SAG-AFTRA calls a strike.” And thus it came to pass. Tiffany Haddish marked the occasion with an altered couture piece that doesn’t hold a candle to the original design, we’re sorry to say.
There can always be changes made to a design in a couture collection when it’s made for a client’s specifications, but this version of the design looks more like a knockoff of what walked the runway than a variation of it. The lining is much simpler (and duller) and the neckline much plainer. We can understand why someone might opt not to wear a pair of pailette-covered silver thigh-highs (or whatever’s going on in that runway picture), but it’s hard to deny that the skirt was designed to be worn with some sort of leg covering. Like this, it just looks like her skirt got shredded getting out of the limo. This is a heavy fall dress that she had turned into a summer version and it really doesn’t work.
