We said something yesterday about Princess Cathy’s style that we honestly thought would get a little more pushback. We noted that her dressing had gotten very basic and theme-y in a way that we likened to a flight attendant’s uniform. That sounds like a read, but it’s really only meant to offer an explanation and interpretation as to why she dresses the way she does. Truth be told, Queen Elizabeth was also heavily into using a particular style uniform in her later years, one that could often stop just this side of whimsical in her reliance on eye-popping colors and jaunty little top hats to more easily secure her image as a grandmotherly figure. Anyway, here’s Cathy in her nurse’s uniform for the day:
We’re only partially joking. She’s out greeting the crowds lined up outside of Buckingham Palace in advance of the coronation and she’s wearing a starkly simple, colorless design that allows her to stand out as a pristine, if generic figure. There’s no grandiosity to it. It’s a dress so simple it looks like a novice home sewer could have made it. She’s a humble, unadorned silhouette rendered in black and white. If the colors were reversed she’d look like a nun. It’s a very effective of way of making herself seen while not making her seem attention-seeking. The slingbacks are really nice, by the way.
