We realize that “nature is healing” jokes are well past their freshness date, but it really does feel like a return to normal to see some big, slick, Marvel movie character posters ahead of an upcoming theatrical release. Oh sure, we got WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier during our lockdown, but they felt small in comparison to the kinds of big, dumb, loud amusement park rides that Marvel’s so good at producing.
Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow confronts the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger. Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha/Black Widow, Florence Pugh stars as Yelena, David Harbour portrays Alexei/The Red Guardian, and Rachel Weisz is Melina. The feature film is directed by Cate Shortland and produced by Kevin Feige, “Black Widow”—the first film in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios’ “Black Widow” Launches July 9 in Theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access.
We guess they’re setting up Florence Pugh as Scarlett Johansson’s replacement character with this one. If you pay attention to Marvel’s post-Endgame output, they’re clearly putting together a roster of post-Avengers, what with Wanda’s magical kids in WandaVision, Wyatt Russell as the bargain-basement Captain America USAgent (and the hint of another character picking up Falcon’s old wings) in FATWS, and Hailee Steinfeld’s introduction in the upcoming Hawkeye series. Pugh would slot into the old Natasha spot nicely, but looking at the above shots, we kinda want to see Rachel Weisz take over the role. She looks amazing in the costume.
