And now, something shocking from T Lo. Something you never thought you’d read on this site. Something that will shake you to your very core. Or not. We don’t know your life, darling. But here goes:
Miss Amanda, we are HERE for your fucked-up dress.
Do we shock? Are you scandalized? We honestly think she should consider this her go-to style going forward. It’s true that we’ve never been huge fans of the ripped-apart or deconstructed dress – especially when it’s pink and prom-y. Teenagers were doing that sort of thing over thirty years ago. If not for punk-inspired reasons (where this style originated), then for the most mainstream of ones: because they saw Molly Ringwald do it in Pretty in Pink. Nothing about this design – not the frayed hem, not the safety pin, not the asymmetry – none of it is fresh or new. But if you’re going to do this sort of style, you’d do well to stick with the British houses – especially McQueen and Westwood, both of which excel at this style. And sure, maybe it would be more interesting or fresher somehow if someone other than a pretty, blue-eyed blonde prom queen type wore it on the red carpet (Zendaya could probably crush this), but it’s really hard for us to entertain the idea that Amanda’s not insanely well-suited to it. It just looks good on her – and so much more interesting than her extensive C.V. of mainstream red carpet looks. The pretty, somewhat simple hairstyle makes a perfect juxtaposition.
