After a whirlwind tour of the awards track red carpets in a succession of surprisingly impeccable (for a newcomer) and stylish looks (with just the right amount of attention-seeking in the mix), Miss Yalitza surprised us. She toned things way down for the final victory lap.
It’s lovely. The face, hair, dress and jewelry are all more understated than 75% of what she’s worn throughout awards season. It’s an interesting way to go, especially for a nominated actress who knew she didn’t have much of a shot. But one of the most charming things about her is the way she talks about this moment in interviews. There isn’t a bit of delusion or denial. She knows this is a short-lived moment and that she will in all likelihood go back to some semblance of her old life when it’s over. Taken from that perspective, this is an undeniably elegant and downright classy way to show up for the final bow. She looks beautiful, and no matter what else happens she can be happy and proud that she made actual history.
