Queen Max wrapped up her Indonesia trip and joined her husband King Willem-Alexander in Suriname for a state visit. The looks were the typically uneven fare from her favorite design house.
AT THE WELCOME CEREMONY IN NATAN COUTURE

PRINCESS CATHY WOULD NEVER. Wear an eyelet dress without a lining, that is. We aren’t remotely scandalized by it, but the Dutch press must be a lot more laid back than their British counterparts, because the latter would have raked any royal woman over the coals for showing up like this. It’s a pretty dress, but that massive sash looks silly and the brooch looks completely out of place. The hat’s nice, but it strikes us as too casual for a state visit.
AT THE STATE BANQUET IN NATAN COUTURE

A moment of appreciation for the King’s suit, which is very nice. This would not be a color that we’d pick for her to wear, but orange has a ton of significance in Dutch history, so we’ll let her have this one. The drape and sweep are lovely, but the bodice looks awfully home-sewn. We can’t say the bright orange wrap works all that well with it.
