Is film finally ready to embrace ‘messy mothers’?
See Die My Love, Hamnet, and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
This year, filmmakers seem to be catching up and, finally, taking an interest. A new crop of female-led films are reframing the female domestic space, untangling it from its sanitised, comfy associations, and instead, presenting it as it truly is: a battleground of its own. Lynne Ramsey’s new film Die, My Love sees Jennifer Lawrence taking on the role of a mother descending into a terrifying case of postpartum psychosis. In Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, Jessie Buckley gives a heart-wrenching performance as Agnes, William Shakespeare’s wife, who undergoes the horrific trauma of losing a child. Finally, Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You stars Rose Byrne as a mother on the brink as she faces impossible pressure from every angle.

Mia Goth’s ‘Frankenstein’ Costumes Feature Beetles, 40 Carats of Diamonds, and a ‘60s Naked Dress
Inside costume designer Kate Hawley’s richly layered and thoroughly creepy world of ‘Frankenstein’ fashion.
Gothic romance is everywhere—on runways, where designers are making couture for vampires, in homes with Medieval modern interiors trending, and, of course, in your Netflix queue, where projects like Frankenstein are leaning into the trappings of horror.
Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 classic novel starring Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Oscar Isaac drops November 7 on the streaming platform. Everything about the film—from Elordi’s full body makeup to the sweeping grounds of Gosford House—is richly layered, blending historical settings and steampunk fantasy for an aesthetic that’s equal parts beautiful and creepy. That goes doubly true of the fashion created by costume designer Kate Hawley.
How to Keep Your Wig Looking Salon-Fresh, All Year Round
Your ultimate wig maintenance cheat sheet
Wig culture has no doubt transformed the Black hair space over the last decade. Thanks to the unique flexibility of the style—whether it’s a waist-length glueless yaki wig (a texture that mimics relaxed or straightened Afro hair) or a DIY blonde bob resurrected from a 6×5 unit (a lace wig piece with a wider parting area that makes restyling easier)—when managed properly, a good wig can be an excellent investment.
12 Peppermint Mocha Manicures to Try for a Taste of the Season’s Sweetest Nail Trend
Green and brown polish go together like crushed candy canes and whipped cream.
Don’t despair over coffee shops phasing out their fall menus—instead, get excited to trade your pumpkin spice latte for your first whipped-cream-topped peppermint mocha of the season. It’s only right that your nails should make the switch, too. After the burnt orange and baked clay polishes that dominated fall manicures, we’re starting to see a push towards fresh, minty green manicures contrasted with luscious, chocolatey brown accents. The color combination feels a little more daring and unexpected than typical winter nail polish pairings, like dark red with gold accents or snow-white ombrés, but we promise that it’s just as versatile and wearable.
These are the only nail colours that matter this November (and they go with everything)
Moody hues make for the perfect autumnal mani.
The weather is starting to turn wintery, so naturally, our nail colours are taking on warmer, deeper hues that channel the cosy, warm vibe we love to harness this season.
If you’re ready to transform your manicure into a seasonal accessory, get ready to fall in love with a palette that combines glamour, warmth and sophistication. But these aren’t your typical autumnal shades — this month, we’re celebrating punchy, bold shades, as well as traditional deep hues of purple and wine red for a super chic mani.
A Frida Kahlo Self-Portrait Could Become the Most Expensive Painting By a Woman Sold at Auction
El Sueño (La Cama), painted by Frida Kahlo in 1940, is estimated to fetch between $40 and $60 million.
In the middle of a huge bed floating in a cloudy sky, the silhouette of Frida Kahlo, her jet hair sweeping across the pillow, disappears beneath the embrace of a yellow blanket and a leafy branch. The image would be peaceful were it not for the bony form of an explosives-laden skeleton, bouquet in hand, hovering over the sleeping woman. El Sueño (La cama), translated as The Dream (The Bed), was painted by the Mexican artist in 1940. 85 years later, the self-portrait could become the most expensive work painted by a woman.
The painting is among the works to be presented at an auction on November 20 in New York by Sotheby’s. The auction house estimates it will fetch between $40 and $60 million.
Kitten heel boots: the most elegant shoe trend for winter 2025
Perfect for the office (and going out after).
Comfort is key in day-to-day life, which is why flat winter boots have become a must-have for many of us. However, in 2025, footwear trends have been going a bit wild: hybrid styles are taking over, from sneakerinas (a mix of trainers and ballerina flats) to cowboy-turned-riding boots. Today, we’re turning to the kitten heel boot.
In reality, their reign comes as no surprise, what with the love for all things ’00s. In 2023, Khaite launched its iconic Zebra boot, a best-selling phenomenon that has since been reproduced in more affordable (and more versatile) versions, replacing its recognisable animal print with neutral colours like black, brown or beige.
Your First Fringe, Sorted: How To Find The Right Cut For Your Face Shape And Hair Type
Finally taking the plunge? These are the key things you need to know
There is nothing quite like a fresh set of bangs to deliver an effortless, cool-girl edge to any hairstyle. Jennifer Lawrence knows it; so does Demi Moore, Pamela Anderson, Michelle Yeoh, Zoe Saldaña, Aimee Lou Wood and Nicole Kidman, all of whom have adopted some form of fringe in 2025.

The Queen of timeless fashion: Elizabeth II’s 100 most elegant looks
As a major new exhibition is announced to celebrate the style of Queen Elizabeth II, Tatler celebrates the late monarch’s fashion sense
From floral pinafores as a Princess, to bedazzled ballgowns as a newly crowned Queen and the joy-inspiring rainbow wardrobe in later life, Queen Elizabeth II always served fashion, as well as her country.
A master of championing great British design, Queen Elizabeth II always enjoyed displaying the works of great homegrown couturiers. It was Norman Hartnell who designed her silk duchesse wedding gown, which she paid for using ration tokens as other brides in her country did in the wake of WWII, and her stylist Angela Kelly often designed her outfits when attending events.
Hats were also an integral part of the Queen’s wardrobe. Marvellous millinery from Rachel Trevor-Morgan would usually be found atop of her majesty’s head, when she wasn’t wearing a crown of course.
Her other favourite accessories included her trusted Launer handbag – a vivaciously versatile purse – and perfectly practical pumps from Anello & Davide, who also created Dorothy’s ruby slippers in The Wizard of Oz.
As the nation celebrates the legacy of Queen Elizabeth II, take a look back at her greatest style hits.

‘Frankenstein’ Makeup Artist Mike Hill Applied Jacob Elordi’s Full Body Prosthetics 20 Times: ‘He Never Complained Once’
If anyone is a master at telling monster stories, it’s Guillermo del Toro.
For years, he has wanted to tell his version of “Frankenstein,” and now his imagining of the classic Mary Shelley novel has finally arrived on Netflix.
In true del Toro style, however, his creature is not a monster, but one filled with emotion and humanity. And that vision was something prosthetics artist Mike Hill kept in mind when creating his designs for del Toro’s film. “We wanted to stay away from classical zombies or anything like that,” Hill tells Variety.
‘Frankenstein’ Costume Designer Kate Hawley on How David Bowie and Prince Inspired Victor’s Looks
Guillermo del Toro reunited with “Crimson Peak” costume designer Kate Hawley to help bring the look of “Frankenstein” to life.
When Hawley got the call, as a lover of the romantics and former art history student, the first thing she did was leap back into the pages of the book.
But Hawley admits, “Knowing that we were going on the journey with Guillermo meant a whole lot of wonderful things: trepidation as well as excitement.”
