Kiss of the Spider Woman star Jennifer Lopez combined old school glamour and modern prestige actress style for the Governors Awards. We suspect this would have been the kickoff look to her Oscar campaign – and who knows? Maybe it still is, but the movie flopped during the worst fall the industry has seen in years. Is this a moment of can’t-bring-me-down defiance or is it signaling a victory lap to come? We’ll see how it plays out in the coming months, we guess. For now, you get to decide if she nailed it or not.
We neither love it nor hate it, which is why we’re sending it along to you for final judgment. There’s not a thing about this design that feels fresh or new, but then again, we don’t think it’s meant to be either of those things. It’s classic elegance with a hint of glamour to it. That “skinny lady superimposed on a dress” thing can be gimmicky, but we don’t mind it here. We’re pretty tired of seeing opera gloves on the red carpet, but this gown was clearly designed with them in mind. It’s all… fine, we guess. You make the final call:
