We enjoy covering Queen Maxima because she doesn’t restrict herself to narrow ideas about what constitutes royal style and she also tends to get something wrong in at least 90% of her outfits, which gives us something to talk about. The above picture probably had you scrolling rather quickly past all these pointless words, so let’s get to it.

So here’s the thing: this is kind of hideous. The print on the jacket is ugly and too large in scale, the peach color is not particularly flattering and there’s entirely too much of it. It’s bad that you can see the seam allowances in the coat, which definitely should have been lined in another color. There’s some weirdly unflattering business happening in the midsection. The scalloped edges look unsophisticated. The earrings look like a playset for a little girl. But look, it’s definitely not boring or too conservative. Unfortunately, we don’t see how this can be edited. We appreciate the distinctiveness, but scrap the whole thing.
