Princess Cathy is having what we presume to be one of her favorite kinds of public engagements in Northern Ireland; the kind where she gets to dress down in country tweeds and do fun things and check in on some kids. If there’s a pint involved, all the better. This is part of a visit with organizations that provide “creative and entrepreneurial opportunities for young people in rural areas of Northern Ireland,” which is TOTALLY her bag.
We suspect that Northern Ireland will remain part of their portfolio for life. The further you get away from the late Queen, the more likely you are to get a greater reception overall and they’ve already established ties there and in the Republic that no one else in the family has. They take well to it, is what we’re trying to say here. Here, they’re visiting Mallon Farm, a flax farm in County Tyrone which is reviving flax growing for linen as a blueprint for sustainable farming. They both look fine, but he might have been better off ditching the tie and dress shirt here. A swea– excuse us, jumper might have been a better choice. Ironically — or perhaps not? — she’s serving “Queen Elizabeth in the country” drag. All she needs is the babushka and some corgis to finish it off. As always, the look is extremely appropriate. We have no notes.
Later, they visited the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service’s new Learning and Development College, which trains all NIFRS employees and offers opportunities for the young people of Northern Ireland to train and become the next generation of firefighters. Again, this is the perfect sort of engagement specifically for these two. Your girl’s a bit of a theme-dresser when she steps off the island, so of course she’s wearing green here. It’s a gorgeous coat, of course. We’re not sure she’s ever worn a coat that wasn’t. Those Brits sure have outerwear locked down.
