Harry Melling and Alexander Skarsgård posed at the BFI London Film Festival premiere of their queer kink romance Pillion and as you can see, the latter’s outfit made such a splash that we wondered whether it would be fair to feature his co-star at all in this post, but we think the juxtaposition of their looks is the entire point of them. Like tops and bottoms, butches and femmes, doms and subs, you need one to define the other in this case.
Let’s start with this. Harry Melling is adorable and we suspect that a succession of roles where he’s been cast as the “not hot option” has affected how he presents himself. Harry, here’s some simple advice for free: just copy what Andrew Scott’s been doing. It doesn’t work for him at all, but it would look great on you. As for Miss Attention-Seeker…
That is a genuinely hot and interesting take on menswear, not to mention kink, since there’s a clearly femme undertone to the top juxtaposed with a butch one at the bottom (have fun with those puns, boys). We cheered when Timothee Chalamet wore a halter, so we’re duty-bound to do it here. As we’ve noted before, Alexander has a long history of red carpet stunting, including some kink displays. He’s also made references to being not entirely straight and narrow. Which isn’t to say that you have to be queer or kinky to dress like this for the red carpet. It’s just that we’re noting that there’s a melange of self-promotion, attention-seeking, and some nods towards this all being an expression of himself in this mix. At the end of the day, it’s a red carpet and all of this is solely in service to the promotion of this project. It somehow manages to straddle the line between fashion and cosplay for us, so instead of over-analyzing it further, we’ll just say it’s hot.
