Director Scarlett Johansson joined her stars June Squibb, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Erin Kellyman for the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Eleanor The Great.

Apparently, she should try directing more often, because it seems to result in better red carpet choices for her. While this style and color fall very much within her preferences, we don’t really have any critiques worth making. We don’t love the color or the spaghetti straps, but those are matters of taste. The styling is on point and the whole look is well put-together. We’d have rather the dress were red, but we’ll take this as a win.

Now here’s a lady who knows to show up to a red carpet in sparkly, vivid red. We wouldn’t critique a 95-year-old’s style choices under any circumstances, so it’s helpful to us that she legitimately looks great.

A Prada windbreaker is still just a windbreaker, Chiwetel. No matter how expensive it is, if you pair a black windbreaker with black pants and a white dress shirt, you just wind up looking like you work security for the event. The red carpet isn’t the place to deploy stealth luxury, because in that setting, it’s indistinguishable from basic work clothes.

Oh, you almost had us with this one, Loewe. The color is interesting and the design is really eye-catching, but it looks odd stopping at the knees. From a proportions perspective, this would work so much better as a gown, and it would have the added benefit of covering up those awful shoes. Her hair looks amazing. A pendant would’ve been nice.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
In ELEANOR THE GREAT, June Squibb brings to vivid life the witty and proudly troublesome 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein, who after a devastating loss, tells a tale that takes on a dangerous life of its own. Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut is a comically poignant exploration of how the stories we hear become the stories we tell.
Directed by: Scarlett Johansson
Written by: Tory Kamen
