Given the weepy reviews for Hamnet coming out of the festivals, it seems likely that star Jessie Buckley is looking to have a vigorous few months of awards campaigning. She’s always had a somewhat awkward red carpet style that seemed to pull from punk or boho directions, without a real plan as to how to make those styles work for her. For the TIFF premiere, we think she’s opting to do a Prestige Actress turn with a slight twist.
Surprise scrolldown pants! The neckline gives Grande Dame ball gown, but the rest of it is simple and practical in a way that likely appeals to her. Having said that, we think she’d have been better off just wearing the black jumpsuit without the weird quarter-blouse on top. We also think the necklace looks like a cheap drapery tieback. But maybe we’re being mean? For once, that’s not a rhetorical question, although we’d rather frame it this way:
