We are currently at a red carpet intersection comprising three different film festivals plus the VMAs, so forgive us if we start sounding a little frantic and looking a little wild-eyed. We’re scrambling to play catchup and constantly having to recalibrate our bitch settings for each venue. For instance, the Toronto International Film Festival doesn’t normally call for the kind of high fashion that the Venice International Film Festival does, which is why we’re so confused by the choices of the stars of Sacrifice, who came to the TIFF premiere in very different style.
Ana Taylor-Joy in Christian Dior
But of course this one’s never going to show up anywhere without serving something eye-popping, so expecting a low-key choice would have been silly of us. Still, it does come off a weensy bit grandiose. As for the design, we’re not gonna lie: we love it. The skirt comes off insanely heavy and annoying to wear, but the construction is genuinely interesting to look at and we like how simple the bodice is in contrast to the skirt. The color is gorgeous, but we’re not sure it’s the best shade for her.
Chris Evans in John Smedley
We want to be mean about this, but there really is a way to wear a t-shirt on a red carpet and have it look expensive and impeccable. A belt might have been appreciated here, but everything is of such high quality and fits him so perfectly, that our quibbles seem pointless. He looks dreamy.
Charli xcx in Saint Laurent
Sorry, girl. That’s cheap and hideous. Dreary color, boring style, unflattering construction. Should’ve tossed this one.
