On the one hand, we want to prepare you for the scrolldown on Nathalie Emmanuel’s outfit for the David Koma anniversary dinner because it contains a design element we loathe. On the other hand, we don’t want to overstate our case here because it doesn’t look as bad as our normal histrionics might suggest.

Yes, it’s the bow. Of course it’s the bow. We’ve spend decades railing against bows in fashion, to no avail it would seem. And yet, the bow doesn’t bother us nearly as much as it might, possibly because the design is so simple otherwise and possibly because the color looks great on her. If you take the bow away, you’re left with a dress so generic it’s not worth commenting on. Still, we might have liked it more if it had been reduced in size and if those trailing ends weren’t practically to the floor. The styling helps the look a lot, with the hair and makeup choices giving it a modernity that keeps it from look too ’80s.
