At the MTV Video Music Awards, Sabrina Carpenter said “Deal with me, bitches.”
After a summer of controversy surrounding her own sexytime image-making and the cover of her “Man’s Best Friend” album, you might have expected Sabrina Carpenter to show up to the VMAs working her usual cutesy-poo cartoon style. Instead, she opted for some grownup (we have a hard time calling red sequined lace and a lavender feather boa “sophisticated”) style that leaves no room for doubt: she’s not some pop flash-in-the-and and she’s not going anywhere. Like a lot of her red carpetry, it feels like it owes at least a little bit to classic Madonna without being literal about it. The gown is gorgeous on its own. While we can understand why a pop girl would want to gild the lily by adding a purple boa to the mix, we think it would be more chic without it. We also tend to think the style and neckline call for an up do.
