When Carey Mulligan was in the midst of her Oscar campaign for Maestro last year, we feel like we were pretty hard on her, but we also feel like a lot of it was deserved because she kept making some seriously dowdy choices. It’s been a long time since we could every characterize her style as “sharp.” Well, shut our mouths, why don’t you?
To be fair, this isn’t exactly some monument to edginess or elegance. We note first that she’s still in all-black, which is her overwhelming preference. We’ll note second that it’s just a glorified pantsuit. But that jacket is genuinely interesting. It looks to be outerwear, so we can understand why she didn’t wear it on set, but we kinda wish she had. The one-shoulder top really works with it. We suspect some strong disagreement on this, but we actually like the hair. Anything that gives her a bit of an edge or a sense of uniqueness is good for her; otherwise she goes into boring socialite territory.
