Naomi Watts has got a dog movie coming out and she’s been making the rounds to promote it in a succession of clean, low-key chic pieces in that Grace Kelly mode she tends to prefer. But there’s one moment of surprise and once you see it, you’ll know we hate it.

We’re not fussy about accessories matching but we have to admit we’re bugged by those slingbacks. The outfit is very “daytime urban” chic, like something one of Capote’s swan’s might have worn to run errands, but we just can’t get past the black bag/white shoe combo. That is not the thing that we hate in this collection of pictures, however.

This is. Yes, the dog is adorable. Try to see your way past that so we can talk about the skirt. Here. We’ll help you:

Sorry, that’s a big ol’ no. Putting aside the theme-dressing question and the oddness of picking your outfit to match your dog, that skirt’s just ugly and fungal-looking. It’s a pretty great look otherwise, and we might have been okay with a more traditional polka dot, but the fuzzy bits just look weird to us.

ABOUT THE MOVIE:
Based on the bestselling novel, writer and teacher Iris (Watts) finds her comfortable, solitary New York life thrown into disarray after her closest friend and mentor (Murray) bequeaths her his beloved 150 lb. Great Dane. The regal yet intractable beast, named Apollo, immediately creates practical problems for Iris, from furniture destruction to eviction notices, as well as more existential ones. Yet as Iris finds herself unexpectedly bonding with Apollo, she begins to come to terms with her past, and her own creative inner life in this story of healing, love, and friendship.
