King Wilhelm Alexander and Queen Maxima continued their tour of Kenya, where she continues to dress boldly and sometimes a little goofily. Examples? Let’s go:
IN VALENTINO GARAVANI
Last night, they attented the Contra Performance at JW Marriott in Nairobi. We love ourselves a queen who loves herself a caftan, but we don’t think we’ve ever seen an actual queen in one, let alone one with such a chicly minimalist vibe. The jewelry is gorgeous and we love the choice of the gold bag. It’s all very stylish in a way that says rich but doesn’t necessarily say royal. Unforch, she’s got what the drag queens call “cliffhangers,” as her toes threaten to jump off the ledge of her platforms. Ironically, he always looks like he’s wearing shoes that are too big for him.
IN NATAN
Ooof. Girl, no. We get off the royal bus at this stop. The king and queen made a visit to the Supreme Court Building in Nairobi, where she sported this outrageously mumsy frock. It could be saved with some smart styling, but the choices in that regard are pretty terrible. The greens and teals of the accessories are a poor match to the print and those earrings are completely wrong for a day dress. She looks a little cray in this one.
