Now that awards season is over, we were kind of hoping that The Last Showgirl star Pamela Anderson had made her point and was going to return to more red carpet-ready styling, but we’re sorry to report that she’s still stepping in front of cameras looking like she wandered out of a fitting.

Oof. With the full acknowledgement of all the objectifying bullshit she had to put up with in her career and how her current preference to go makeup-free in the most dowdy neutrals you could possibly find is clearly a response to it, we still can’t claim this is all working for her. First, we’ve told men this exact same thing when they stepped in front of cameras looking shiny and ruddy: there’s nothing wrong with evening out your skin tone a little and tamping down on the shiny. In fact, it’s the opposite of wrong; it’s what you should be doing for promotional work all the time. And it should be noted that she’s not actually makeup-free, which makes this look all the more puzzling to us. As a personal statement, it’s a bit confusing. She should really be taking her cues from Tilda Swinton, who wears makeup, but uses it mostly to even out her skin and dramatize the lines of her face. She doesn’t have to line her eyes or put a lot of color on her face if she doesn’t want to, but this approach has literally never yielded a decent picture of her. And finally, that outfit is so hideous that we have to assume she’s on some sort of uglifying kick at the moment and we hope she gets over it soon. It doesn’t have to be about over-the-top glamour or high fashion. If she were a lawyer arguing a case or an executive addressing a board, she would still look terrible presenting herself this way. She doesn’t ever have to return to her sexpot styles, nor should she be expected to indulge in classic glamour if that’s not how she’s feeling about herself, but there are a million much better ways to reject those styles and still leave the house looking good.
