Tom’s defense: I mean, come on. Even without the knowledge that this design was a partial tribute to Hattie McDaniel, the first Black woman to win an Oscar, it’s just a stunning design that brought real drama to the Oscars red carpet and stood out among all of the sparkly body-con gowns. She took up space like a queen.

Lo’s defense: This is the best she’s looked on a red carpet in like ten years. It’s the definition of dazzling and the execution of it is amazing. To me, this is what the Oscars is all about: pure, blinding fabulousness and star power wrapped up in the most fantastic fashion.
