One final SAG Awards spotlight post before we do the big wrapup and start work on the Oscar-ology posts. We feel a little bad that we haven’t paid as much attention to A Complete Unknown star and Best Supporting Actress nominee Monica Barbaro as we have some other, more attention-seeking nominees, but that is, in fact, how the Oscar campaigning game is played. You’ve got to get out there as much as possible, in as many eye-popping or photogenic looks as your stylist can snag for you. We wouldn’t say she hasn’t been doing the work, but her style efforts always strike us as a little timid.
Granted, “timid” isn’t the first word that comes to mind when you’re looking at a neckline that deep, but like a lot of her campaigning style, this dress is lovely, but almost instantly forgettable. Some more aggressive styling would have gone a long way here, whether we’re talking a pendant, a contrasting belt, or an up do; some more noticeable choices might have made this a more memorable look. But no styling choice is going to correct the poor fit on that bust, which really should have been adjusted for her.
