Lucy Boynton is the current reigning queen of Twee-as-Fuck, Broken-Down Doll style and she took the opportunity to remind you of that fact at the premiere of her new series on Britbox, The Ruth Ellis Story.
This is a perfect example of the kind of styles she’s best at working, and we usually like her whole deal, but this is a little too much on the dowdy side and not enough on the twee side. For one, the vest is a little snug on her. It’s not a dealbreaker, but for an outfit like this one, you don’t want to see the buttons pulling. The blouse is kind of drab and not as cute as it could be. We dislike the ruffled collar and bow, neither of which really coordinate all that well with the tweet. We’re genuinely surprised to see her bare-legged. This outfit practically screams for a pair of opaque tights. It’s a cute look, but never quite as cute as it could or should be.

ABOUT THE SERIES:
A CRUEL LOVE: THE RUTH ELLIS STORY tells the hidden story of Ruth Ellis and exposes the timeless British obsessions of class, sex and death. Set in 1955 in the glamorous and intoxicating world of London club-land, Ruth found huge acclaim, aged 28, as the capitals youngest club manager.
But her success soon unraveled as she became entwined in an abusive relationship with racing driver David Blakely. On trial for his murder, Ruth was condemned to hang by a system which judged her for far more than her crime.
