We noted the other day how strange it seemed to us that The Substance star Demi Moore hadn’t worn more Schiaparelli while promoting the film, since the House’s body part aesthetic marries particularly well to the film’s body horror. Ultimately, we think it’s a good thing that she and her stylist Brad Goreski didn’t submit entirely to the theme-dressing trend, but we wouldn’t have minded seeing a few more ears and toes in her style choices. In response to our observations, Demi and Brad scrambled to find more Schiaparelli pieces for her to wear.
No, not really. Brad said on his Instagram that they’d been looking at this one for months. While it doesn’t have the same body horror feel of so many of Daniel Roseberry’s designs, Goreski did note that the corseting in the back is a reference to the film’s spinal imagery. We like the idea of this choice of dress, but we just can’t get behind some of the details, like the boob crown or the slashes in the skirt. We don’t even like the shoes, if we’re being brutally bitchy. But you know what? It’s the weekend and we’re feeling magnanimous, so we’ll let you make the final call on this one:
