And we’re off! It’s a new year and it’s starting, as it always does, smack in the middle of awards season. Because we’re coming off an uncharacteristic (for us) two-week vacation and because the Golden Globes drop like a bomb on Sunday night, we’ll be working our way through the star-studded Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards all weekend long. We’ll kick things off with America’s favorite witch (at the moment). Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has well and truly left the Elphaba cosplay behind her as she faces the Oscar campaign in front of her.

We approve. Character cosplay is all fine and well when you’re promoting the film itself, but when you start picking up the nominations and trophies, you should put the costumes aside and get dressed like a grownup (Imaginary Editor’s note: T Lo do not, in fact, think character cosplay is either fine or well). We find the simplicity of the design refreshing after all of the ostentation of the promo tour, although such a sleek dress doesn’t work as well with the massive manicure. We know those things are her signature, but they work against the elegant sleekness of the dress.
