Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw absolutely did not slack off on their fashion choices for the premiere of their new series Black Doves on Netflix. This is good news for us because it gives us something to talk about as well as an opportunity to suggest that you all catch Black Doves on Netflix because it’s a lot of fun and also because we’ll be talking about it on the next podcast. Onward! To judgment!
Keira Knightley in Chanel Couture
This is a lot. One thing it is not, however, is retro or romantic. Instead, it’s hard-edged and modern, which gives you some idea of how she feels about this project. Not that we’d call this theme-dressing; just that she plays a kickass spy in this one and while there’s bits of romance here and there, it’s decidedly not the point of the character. Do we love this on the merits? Not really. LOVE that coat, but we don’t think it coordinates all that well with the skirt. Still, points for being different and unexpected. Speaking of which…
Ben Whishaw in S.S. Daley
He’s pretty much the Prince of Different and Unexpected. We love the look, but we have several big quibbles. First, the blasphemous one: Yes, he has gorgeous hair and we absolutely think he should work the hell out of it, but the grooming here is terrible. Keep the hair, but trim the hell out of that face thatch. We also tend to think the frames are not the best choice for him. Love the coat and appreciate the hefty shoes with the wide-legged pants. But what is going on with those tops? This is frustrating, because it could have been a unique look that’s particularly well suited to him, but the details are off; just enough to bring the whole look down.

Together, Helen and Sam set off on a mission to investigate who killed Jason and why, leading them to uncover a vast, interconnected conspiracy linking the murky London underworld to a looming geopolitical crisis.
