W MAGAZINE released their annual cover for its latest issue, Volume 6, The Art Issue, featuring actress, and producer Nicole Kidman. This year, The Art Issue is inspired by legendary New York artist Robert Longo’s who enlisted Kidman to re-create his iconic “Men in the Cities” series from the 1980s.

PinOn Babygirl having special significance, as the title is the nickname given to Nicole by her husband, Keith Urban: “He actually has babygirl tattooed on the back of his neck…I don’t know if Halina knows that, but it’s all part of this sprinkling of fairy dust that happens…Keith’s not allowed to call anyone else Babygirl…But now, because of the film, it’s taken on a different meaning. So he’s like, ‘No, I still have total rights over Babygirl!’”

On her role in Babygirl and the film’s unique perspective: “It is very much a woman’s story…But I learned early on that a film is actually not about me—it is really about a vision, and how do you go and capture that vision?”

Explaining how she came to get the part in Babygirl: “I knew about Halina Reijn, and I heard she was directing a film called Babygirl…I was in Australia and I called Halina, and we didn’t get off the phone for almost two hours. From that point on, we were doing the film together.”

Recalling how she regretted an early career opportunity to work with Jane Campion: “My mom was working…So we always had to find things to do in the afternoon. I did ballet and then mime work, and when I was 13 they found me a little weekend drama school. We did the Tennessee Williams play Sweet Bird of Youth. I was playing the Princess…and I had no understanding of what the actual text meant. The director Jane Campion came and sat in the back of that little theater and then cast me in one of her student films. But I didn’t do it—I didn’t want to wear a shower cap in the film and not look pretty…Huge regret. What a big regret!”
