The stars came out for Variety’s Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards and the looks were a little less grandiose than you might expect for an awards season kickoff like this one. Let’s assess, yes? Yes!
Amy Poehler
This is simple, but has a kind of kickass quality to it that looks great on her. The belt provides a little bit of glamour and visual interest; just enough to keep this from looking too simple or businesslike. She’s usually not much of a poser, but she’s giving us the impression that she really loves this.
Daveed Diggs in Versace
Great coat. He really doesn’t need anything else.
Elle Fanning in Dior
Those…gloves? Sleeves? Whatever they are, they’re entirely too much with such a simple and classic LBD and they look really dumb paired with a dress showing so much skin on the sides and back. We credit her for going so hard, but this feels like a bit much.
Karla Sofía Gascón
She’s been sticking fairly closely to minimalist, classic styles in black, which is a good idea, but we’d swear we’ve seen her in this same dress about a half-dozen times now.
Kristen Wiig in Moschino
Given how much we tend to hate both fringe and tiered dresses, we’re surprised to admit that we think this looks pretty great on her. The earrings are kind of fun, but they tend to dominate the look.
Pamela Anderson
We don’t understand this outfit. The individual items look kind of nice, but they don’t look like they belong in the same outfit. She appears to be wearing a red blouse under a black satin jacket, both of which are tucked into a form-fitting matte-black skirt. Why, Pam? Why are you doing that?
Ryan Reynolds
The fit is weird, the color does nothing for him, and we loathe those ladybuttons. What’s the point in wearing your tie loose but doing up two buttons of your jacket?
