CATHY’S OUT!” Alarms rang, hands flapped, and your manly bloggers manned their manly blogger stations, ready to present to you the details. The Prince and Princess of Wales made their first joint public engagement in nearly a year and she quite smartly chose a poignant and powerful occasion to do so. They visited the Southport Community Centre to meet the rescue workers and the families of the victims of the Southport knife attack, in which several young children were killed or injured after a dance class in July.

It’s the kind of engagement that calls for somewhat sober style choices, but she’s been doing this long enough to know that the media will want some pictures of her. She’s threaded that needle well. Those autumnal shades are her best colors. Good to see her out doing the kind of work she wants to do. This was well-planned and plays perfectly to her strengths. William’s beard is a good choice and we hope he grows it out more, although it remains to be seen if the UK will accept a bearded king again when that time comes. It’s been a while. We never understood the supposed resistance to it. It tends to look great with those old-school military uniforms the job requires.
