Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie
What Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are most excited about regarding their new show Paris & Nicole: The Encore: NR: If you’d asked me two months ago, I would have said I’m so excited to shoot it. Rarely do I get to take a month and just shoot a show with my friend. I knew that we were going to laugh the whole time, and that’s always an incentive for me. I’m hoping that people watch it and find the same joy in it that I did.
PH: Nicole and I together is magic. We have this dynamic that’s so real, and there’s just so much history behind it. For the opera, we invited hundreds of fans from around the world to come and watch. It was special to hear what an impact Nicole and I had on them.
On his Boiler Room set alongside Rico Nasty going viral 4 months after its release: “It’s definitely unexpected. I have a pretty terminally online audience, and I don’t say that in a disparaging way. I’m a very online person, but DJ’ing was originally my plan to stay out of the algorithm. Now I’m trying not to get into a head-space of “this is too quick” and to just enjoy the swell.”
How Emmy award winning show Baby Reindeer came into her life: Richard Gadd, who plays Donny and who created Baby Reindeer, had written an earlier show called Monkey See Monkey Do, and I had seen that. It was an intense show to watch—he was on a treadmill, running, for most of it. I was gripped by it—I kept thinking, This man is brave. His next show was Baby Reindeer, and I couldn’t get tickets. I actually bought the script version of the play and found it absolutely riveting. Four years later, they sent me the script to audition for Martha. I read all seven episodes and knew I had to play her.
On collaborating with vocal powerhouses, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, for Wicked: We sang every song that I could think of in between takes—from musicals, which they know, to jazz standards, which they also know, to really anything. We were always singing. Can you imagine me opening up my ears and hearing their voices every day of the shoot? I was just weepy with joy. They’re both prolific, as you know, and have a huge body of work. In the makeup trailer, I used to look up Cynthia Erivo online and just put on some things that I had never heard before and get weepy. She’s amazing. On YouTube, I found Ariana doing a cover of “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which I played over and over again. Halfway through the shooting, Ariana says, “Look, we took a picture together.” I was like, “What were you doing at that show, The Pillowman, on Broadway?” And she tells me, “I came to see it with my mom. I was 12. We came two nights in a row and waited for you backstage so I could take a picture with you.” She showed me this picture of us, and I said, “Send me that immediately!”
