Are you in the mood for some grande dame eleganza? Of course you are! You’re here, aren’t you? Maria star Angelina Jolie disembarked this morning at the Venice Film Festival looking like an earth-toned goddess.

Even though her dress is kind of ugly. She knows she can throw on any old thing and make it work, which is why she tends to stick so rigidly to neutrals. We think she looks gorgeous in these shots, but the longer we look at them, the more we realize it’s in spite of the dress and not because of it. Granted, Angelina Jolie doesn’t need a dress – or anything else – to help her look beautiful, but this one in particular is somewhat actively ugly. That’s not a great shade of brown, in our opinion, but it’s the kind that would work with a lot of complementary colors in the accessories. Unfortunately, that’s not how she rolls. The smocking gives it an odd shape and forces the eye directly to her midsection. The pumps are a silly choice for a boat.
