Words are completely pointless here because there’s no way in hell you didn’t immediately scroll down once you got a load of that thumbnail. But fine, for google purposes: Cate Blanchett attended the Los Angeles fan event for her upcoming film Borderlands in a pile of spoons. We good? Anyone reading this?
Ellen Hodakova Larsson is a Swedish designer who works with sustainable fashion. The top is made out of 102 spoons sourced from “the Swedish countryside,” according to Cate’s stylist Elizabeth Saltzman. We’re all for sourcing unconventional materials and reusing items in a bid for sustainability, but quite frankly, this just looks dumb. It doesn’t even look like clothing, let alone like something stylish or fabulous. As sustainable fashion goes, it just feels like another goofy gimmick. Real sustainable fashion is well-made clothing that lasts for decades, allowing for countless rewears. It’s fundamentally ill-suited to celebrity red carpet tours in the modern era, which is why we’re left with goofy gimmicks like this.
