Before she hit the stage to host the BET Awards in a succession of eye-popping outfits, Taraji P. Henson kicked off the night by making a bold statement in gold chains on the red carpet.

It’s pretty spectacular, but we have some quibbles. The gold threads/wires/filaments/whatever are an interesting design element but we think they complicate the design and make it fussier than it needs to. We honestly can’t tell if the dress is slipping down or of that black piece is supposed to be part of the design. If it’s the former, that’s bad. If it’s the latter, it’s another not-great design element. And finally, her hair looks great but the makeup seems strangely subdued for such a dazzling look. We made the assessments, but you get to make the final call (and of course add assessments of your own):
