Ariana DeBose wore a whole truckload of looks onstage as she hosted the Tony Awards, but for the sake of our sanity, we’re restricting our opinions to her red carpet look, largely because it was the most polished of her efforts that night.
We’d feel rather silly complaining that this looks a little stiff on her, since that would be largely the point of the design. It’s a gimmicky design, but it’s striking and the reference is easily understood at first glance. It’s very upfront about itself, if that makes any sense. Admittedly, we’re not as in love with the skirt as we are with the bodice and we find ourselves wondering what it might have looked like if the stained glass motif was restricted just to the top. We’re also not feeling the silver sandals. They just don’t coordinate that well with the dress. A pair of black strappies would’ve been our rec. We have to say, the hair looks kind of awful to us, although she went through several hair changes during the night, so we’ll give her a pass on that one.
