The cast of Kinds of Kindness braved the heat dome and came out with shiny brows for the New York premiere. Everyone gets points for dressing up in this heat, but we’re still going to judge your choices. Tell you what: we’ll be nice and skip the hair and makeup commentary because y’all are looking limp and shiny in those departments, which is to be expected.
Emma Stone in Louis Vuitton
It’s hideously dramatic, which is almost a sort of compliment. We appreciate that she has a fondness for the weird stuff and avoids ingenue or prestige actress cliches in her style choices. We just wish it all wasn’t so ugly all the time.
Joe Alwyn in Prada
It almost works. We like the idea of the ombre shirt and tone-on-tone blues, but that jacket is simply too large on him and the blues don’t actually look all that great together.
Kirsten Dunst (in Erdem) and Jesse Plemons (in Cerruti)
The style of gown really suits her – she was built for working those ’30s screen siren gowns – but the color looks terrible and those sequins look a little sad. His suit is very nice and very boring.
Mamoudou Athie
We give him credit for dressing for the weather, and it is kind of an interesting choice, but the design is so minimalist and utilitarian that it feels like an unfinished garment.
Margaret Qualley in Chanel
We were going to make a bitchy comment about how she tends to make Chanel look bad, but this is just a legitimately bad Chanel.
Willem Dafoe
Moisturized, thriving, and surprisingly casual.
ABOUT THE MOVIE:
KINDS OF KINDNESS is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
Cast: Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer
