Just so you know, we’re sighing right now. They are sighs of resignation. Look, we long ago realized that Meryl’s red carpet style was never going to quite hit the mark they way we’d prefer. She’s not a fashion girlie and there’s no argument to be made that her style preferences have somehow hurt her career, but even so. After yesterday’s surprisingly chic look for her Cannes photo call, she followed it up with her usual fare for the opening ceremony:
And by “usual fare,” we mean “asking Dior to just remake her 2010 Oscar dress by Project Runway runner-up Chris March.” We’d like to think Chris might have been flattered by it, but he probably would have had grounds for suing if it weren’t a custom dress. Then again, wherever he is, we hope he knows Dior couldn’t improve upon his design. In fact, they stripped away most of the good parts. The lady likes what she likes, but this is barely more than a fancy bathrobe.
