Of course we gave Anya Taylor-Joy’s capital-M Moment at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga it’s own spotlight post, but she was far from the only attendee on that red carpet serving an eye-popping look. She was joined by her co-star, the jury members, and our favorite Cannes tradition of all, a whole bunch of models and international celebrities we never heard of working the shit out of some highly insane fashion. Let’s judge them. Let’s judge them all.
Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky (in Armani Privé)
As we said regarding his look at the morning photo call, we’re mostly resigned to him wearing the Aussie Guy uniform of an unbuttoned shirt with a suit, but we have to draw the line at doing it with a tuxedo; not because we’re prissy about that sort of thing, but because it just looks so damn stupid. That’s simply not how the jacket or that shirt was designed to be worn. She looks fine.
Cindy Bruna in Laruicci
If she wasn’t working so hard to show us her abs, we might have liked this, although it’s way too heavy for Cannes.
Eva Green in Balmain
It has an interesting effect, as if it were disintegrating, but there’s too much going on and the fishnet looks tacky to us.
Greta Gerwig in Armani Privé
Not just gorgeous, an absolute flawless Personal Best for her.
Hofit Golan in JoliPoli Couture
Yes, diva! Deliver that tacky showgirl realness to us! From far away, this is kind of fun, but that nude illusion yoke and those strands of “pearls” hanging off her are insanely tacky. The beaded gloves are dumb.
Iris Mittenaere in Stéphane Rolland Couture
Well, she certainly didn’t have to worry about jewelry for the night. We can’t sign off on that ridiculous gold whatever-it-is, but we’ll give her credit for briefly making sure everyone was looking at her.
Maëva Coucke in Elio Abou Fayssal
It’s overdesigned, it’s giving comforter, and the color is bland.
Naomi Campbell in Chanel Couture
She rewore the runway dress from the Spring 1997 Chanel Couture collection simply to remind you, in case there was any chance that you might have forgotten, she is still that bitch.
Romane Bertrand in Dylan Parienty
Sweetie, this looks idiotic.
Sabrina Elba in Fendi Couture
A white-to-black ombre needs to be a lot more subtle than that, we think. The white part just doesn’t work as well as the black and that neckline is awkward and looks uncomfortable.
