The Barbie party has well and truly ended. We figured a while ago that Margot Robbie wasn’t saving up some sort of major iconic Barbie look for the Oscars. It would have been fun, but she’d been signaling for a while that she was getting tired of the pink and with her two Oscar night looks, it seems like Margot is putting the final nail in the Barbie coffin, so to speak.

This was a great way to announce that she’s moving on while still serving up the kind of winning glam you’d expect from the star of one of the biggest films of the year. Black gowns on red carpets aren’t our favorite thing in the world, but we like how this one has a sculptural quality to it. The bangle is gorgeous. The yoga hair remains a disappointment. Unfortunately, with the retirement of the Barbiecore looks, comes the return of something many folks may have forgotten:

Margot Robbie’s ongoing inability to serve. Part of the reason red carpet watchers loved her Barbie tour so much is because she consistently wore great outfits. If you know anything about Margot’s red carpet history you’d know how much of a novelty that was. We love ourselves some vintage Mugler, but if you’re going to commit to the showgirl looks, you have to really sell them. The half-assed wrap is sad and the laceup sandals look tacky. Again, the yoga hair is not just bad, it’s actively working against the look. If you can’t give a piece like this the EVANGELISTA it deserves, just don’t bother.
