At first glance, we saw Ferrari star Penelope Cruz on the red carpet at the Goya Awards and exclaimed “She broke the Chanel curse!” But did she? Did she really?
We’ve been saying forever that she needs to divorce herself from her Chanel contract. The brand never seemed like a particularly good fit for her and she often wound up looking awkward in the standard brand aesthetic. Despite our longstanding dislike of black-backed florals, we immediately saw this gown as an improvement over most of her Chanel-wearing efforts. If nothing else, it suits her better than the tweeds. But the blouson top really requires a belt, does it not? The one in the runway shot doesn’t appeal to us, but the dress looks odd without it. We can’t say we love the black sheer overlay all that much either. We don’t know…overall, we like it, but some of the details bug a little. You make the call:
