The strike is over, Viola Davis is back on the red carpet in sequins, and all seems right with the world. The star of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes hit the LA premiere in a look that embodied no-fuss glamour:
It’s bold, it’s sparkly, and it’s pretty fun, although we’re not without our quibbles. For one, we don’t think a minidress/cape combo tends to work all that well. We also don’t think the black hose works with it. This was always our issue with sheer black stockings when they came back in style: the way stylists tend to just pair them with anything, regardless of whether the combination works. We can understand not wanting to go bare-legged with a dress like this, but we tend to think it’s pretty much a requirement. We suppose a colored or patterned tight might have worked better, but we’re not convinced. It’s a really cute dress, but the styling isn’t right for it.
