Maestro star and director Bradley Cooper has been doing a notably elevated number of sidewalk sashays lately. We call them that rather than pap shots because they feel somewhat painstakingly orchestrated and started happening while the strike was still going on and his film was heading toward its premiere. Even so, we didn’t see fit to cover many of them because they weren’t interesting and we had no proof that they were orchestrated other than our own finely cultivated cynicism regarding celebrity self-promotion. Then he stepped out in this:
And we burst out laughing. It’s just such a showy, look at me/don’t look at me sort of celebrity style; nominally “normal” street clothes that could almost pass for generic except that the combination of them pretty much forces everyone to turn and notice who’s wearing them. An outfit that feigns going incognito but demands attention. In a way, it’s masterfully executed. The sweater is really nice (from girlfriend Gigi Hadid’s line Guest in Residence – another tactic that pretty much demands press coverage). The jacket’s a little over-embellished for our tastes, but we wouldn’t mind it if it weren’t paired with those silly camo cargo pants.
