We rarely cover directors on the red carpet, but when we do, it’s for one of two reasons; either they’re a performer of some kind or they’re Ava DuVernay. What can we say? The lady’s a style star. She made history this week by being the first African-American woman to present a film in competition at the Venice Film Festival, with the premiere of Origin. Looks were served. On platters.
IN LOUIS VUITTON AT THE PHOTOCALL
This is smart, sharp and stylish. It’s also extremely photogenic. We wish the top didn’t have that subtle print, but it’s the only complaint we have. The skirt is really cute and we love those sandals paired with it. They pull just enough focus away from the label-heavy print.
IN PRADA AT THE PREMIERE
This is absolutely gorgeous and nearly flawless. The bodice could’ve used a little more structure and support, but that’s the only quibble we have. She’s working that extremely subtle colorful beautifully. The hair is fabulous and the jewelry is really well-chosen. She looks fantastic.
