While many of the attendees of this year’s Met Gala paid tribute to its honoree/theme by wearing Karl Lagerfeld’s own designs or designs that utilized the elements for which he was most famous, a handful of stars came dressed in tribute to the man himself, working variations and elements from his own style uniform of black suit, white shirt, black tie, driving gloves and big, mysterious shades.

This is more flamboyant than Lagerfeld’s personal style, but it’s such a wonderful example of his aesthetic. This was one of the most talked-about looks of the night. We love how expressive and adventurous he can be with his fashion.
Cai Xukun in Prada
The coat is gorgeous.
Cardi B in Chenpeng Studio
This was one of several drag versions of Karl on tap for the evening, and it’s probably our favorite of them. It’s funny, cute, and gorgeously executed.
Jackson Wang in Louis Vuitton
Sometimes the homage was simply a pair of black gloves and shades, but sometimes that’s all someone needed to make an impression.
Jessica Chastain in Gucci
This is the other Karlina Lagerfeld drag version of the night and we have to admit, it’s a close second to Cardi B’s. We think she should have worn her hair in a pony tail to really complete the look.
Ke Huy Quan in Dior Homme
That’s just hot.
Manu Ríos in Karl Lagerfeld
It’s perhaps a lazy homage, but somehow, we don’t think Karl would have minded looking at this all night.
Simu Liu in Atelier Versace
Kudos to Versace, because this almost looks like something Karl might have worn.
Stephanie Hsu in Valentino
The dress is cute but the makeup is what really makes the look. Her face looks fantastic.
Teyana Taylor in Thom Browne
Perhaps this stretching the homage a bit, but we can’t say she isn’t working the hell out of the whole thing, hip cutouts included. We never would have thought the Thom Browne aesthetic could work so well for her.
