Janelle Monae put on quite a show on the Met Gala red carpet and you should know that if we were to say that out loud, it would be dripping with sarcasm. Look, we love her and we love Thom Browne, but we couldn’t help but see all of this as fairly silly:
We’re not gonna harrumph over this too much. Personally, we prefer when the Met Gala is a fashion-focused event and not a circus performance or costume party, but we can’t get mad when the invitees most prone to taking a theatrical approach to the red carpet go over the top for the occasion. And when we say this is all silly, we’re stating the obvious. It’s meant to be silly. We can’t count it among our favorite looks of the night but we would never rate it anywhere near the bottom, which is were all the boring looks are. This is anything but. This is how Janelle does the Met Gala. It’s not our fave, but it’s a damn good representation of her aesthetic and persona.
