The Sussexes made a rare red carpet appearance at the Ms. Foundation Women of Vision Awards, where Meghan was an honoree, and she managed to do something she almost never does: shock us a little with her style choices.
This dress represents a ritual burning of the last of her royal drag. Your duchess is out here working strapless and a cutout while baring her royal toes for all the world to see. We haven’t checked the British press before writing this, but we assume heads are on fire. We’ll be honest, we don’t think it’s a great dress; just an okay one. We like the version with the straps a little better, but it looks stiff, we don’t love center slits on skirts, and the hem hits at what we consider the worst spot. But like we said, it’s okay enough. We think it could have been improved with some good styling choices, but she doesn’t go for too much in the way of fuss or embellishment. Harry could use a stylist, although we appreciate that he’s not wearing suede shoes for once. It’s time for Meghan to sit him down and have an honest talk about the future of the top of his head. Doria looks low-key elegant and not at all interested in the spotlight.
As we said the last time they strolled on one, we think the Sussexes could benefit from doing more red carpet appearances at events like this one. They’ve opted to continue a public-facing lifestyle without the royal trappings in America, which means standard celebrity promotional work like talk show appearances, in-depth interviews and red carpets are all on the table. They’re a media brand now and Meghan’s whole look here only reinforces that.
