Halle Bailey continued her string of mermaid-adjacent looks at the London premiere of The Little Mermaid. We can’t say we’ve loved every aspect of every look so far, but we’re impressed by how her stylist Nichole Goodman manages to walk a very fine line separating fashion from costume. She manages to evoke certain imagery without ever being literal about it, which is harder to do than you might assume.
Sure, it’s got a subtle seashell motif and that headpiece is giving bathing cap, but all those little girls can see is a real world princess. We, being opinionated homosexual bloggers and not little girls, can’t help seeing the overuse of nude illusion netting to more or less hold that unworkable bodice together. It’s a shame, because it’s a really pretty fantasy gown, but it clearly needs a bit more structure to work.
