The cast of Shazam: Fury of the Gods (the most famous ones, anyway) hit the red carpet for the film’s Rome premiere and we remain surprised and puzzled by how hard they’re selling this film, given that the DCEU is about to be Thanos-snapped (to mix our corporate metaphors) under the new regime change at Warner’s. We’re also a little surprised by how elaborate the fashion’s been on this promo tour, but this just goes hand in hand with the surprisingly intense promotional approach. Oh, and we should probably warn you about the scrolldown to come.
We bet you didn’t see that coming.
Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera
Is it giving fancy potscrubber? Yes. Absolutely. Does that matter? Not really. She’s Lucy Liu and this is surprisingly fun. We can’t say we love the shape nor do are we all that taken with the floral, but it’s hard not to smile when you see it for the first time. Besides, we’re just thrilled it’s not marabou feathers. She’s having fun with it and this is the right project to take that approach.
Helen Mirren in Dolce & Gabbana
Yeah, okay. Queen Helen has her preferences that we don’t share with her, foremost among them being her support of Dolce & Gabbana (even when the brand doesn’t really suit her) and her love of bulky headbands. Neither of these choices are really working for us.
Zachary Levi in Brooks Brothers
He keeps trying to work some sort of laid back, open shirt vibe and we don’t think it suits him at all. This is a nice enough suit. We don’t necessarily think it calls for a tie, but we’d have rec’d a print shirt with some color to it and a less businesslike pair of shoes.
Rachel Zegler in Fendi
It’s a fairly standard gown rendered in a fairly unphotogenic color with some off seaming and random design elements thrown at it to make it seem more interesting. We don’t love it much, but she does look pretty amazing here. The styling is perfect and she’s to be commended for getting there without any wrinkles.
