It occurs to us that we’ve probably covered Ana de Armas the least out of any of the Best Actress Oscar nominees, but then again, her nomination was a bit of a surprise to everyone – including her, it would seem. We don’t think she has a particularly well-defined style aesthetic. She tends to favor sleek gowns, but the details vary widely. Unlike Elvis star Austin Butler, who’s been working a neo-Elvis persona (right down to the accent) all year, Ana seems to have largely avoided trying to evoke Marilyn in her Blonde pole-dance and it looks like she’s not gonna start bombshelling it up now.
Unfortunately, this is kind of awful – or rather, one glaring detail is awful. We’re talking about those sea creatures that make up the bust. It just doesn’t work for us. We think if the ruffle only ran along the top, it would be fine, but having it run along the bottom just looks awkward and mumsy to us. It’s a shame, because she’s done an incredible job of getting that skirt to the red carpet without any visible wrinkles, but she got let down by the ruffles. Also, we don’t understand this lady’s approach to her hair. It always looks like the worst possible style for her.
