And now, a movie with such an intriguingly random cast of actors that we almost feel compelled to watch it, just to see how all that competing energy plays out. Netflix released the trailer and promotional art for the upcoming You People, starring Jonah Hill, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Eddie Murphy, David Duchovny and Nia Long this morning. Let’s take a look, shall we?

On the one hand, the subject matter is about as far from fresh as you can get. On the other hand, it’s not like everything that can be said about the subject has been said. It’s worth exploring comedically and while we don’t think this will necessarily amount to some sort of cinematic triumph, we are kind of keen to see this cast play with each other. Jonah Hill with Eddie Murphy or with Julia Louis-Dreyfus seems like moments tailor-made for comedy. Still, it’s a little hard accepting Louis-Dreyfus and Duchovny as Hill’s parents.

Synopsis: When a rideshare mix-up in LA brings Ezra Cohen (Jonah Hill) and Amira Mohammed (Lauren London) together, the two find themselves connecting over a shared love of streetwear and music. Kenya Barris’ feature film directorial debut is a modern love story set amidst clashing cultures and interfaith relationships. Co-written by Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill and produced by the two alongside Kevin Misher, the comedy features an all-star ensemble cast including Sam Jay, Elliott Gould, Travis Bennett, Molly Gordon, Rhea Perlman, Deon Cole, Andrea Savage and Mike Epps.
